A Gift with the Essentials for Someone in Need
A Blessing Bag is a plastic 1 gallon size resealable bag, with a number of essential items for a person in need:

Food and Drink:
- A small bottle of water to satisfy thirst
- A protein bar for energy
- A bag of trail mix for healthy food
- Bag of chips
Personal items:
- Band aids for any cuts
- Soap to stay clean
- Small bottles of shampoo & conditioner
- A toothbrush with tooth paste
- Facial tissue paper for hygiene
- Hand/Body lotion for skin care
- A hair comb or brush
- Warm socks to keep the feet warm
An encouraging note:
- About how God loves them, to give hope, and assurance that He has a plan and purpose for their life.
- God could distribute the wealth of the world evenly, but He doesn’t do that. He gives us all the opportunity to give and receive love. That means He blesses some so that they can experience the joy of generosity.
1 John 3:17-18 “If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”
How to Deliver Your Blessing Bag:
- Have a stock of Blessings Bags in your trunk, and be ready for opportunities to give your Blessing Bag to someone in need.
- Your bags might be carried in a basket in the trunk of your car, or in a basket on your bike:

- Make sure it’s really a homeless person or a person in need, and not someone just dropped off to make a fast buck (scammers).
- Take your time. Pull the car over and get out and talk if you can. Ask their name, their story. A hand-delivered care package, a few minutes of conversation, a smile, genuine eye contact, all this can go a long way towards showing someone that they are important, valued, and loved.
- Ask to pray with them. Not everyone will say yes, and that’s ok. Respect their wishes, but if they say yes, pray for them and that they would be blessed. Also pray before and after you give the care package.
- Be safe. Most homeless men and women are not dangerous. They are people just like anyone else. Still, it is wise to be in a group when handing out care packages, especially if you are going to stop and get out.
